What is an RSS Feed?

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. These feeds are written in a language called XML. A "rss reader" is needed to read these feeds. These readers have also been called 'feed readers' and 'aggregators' and can be either web based (like on this web site) or desktop based. The web-based readers on this site are located on the main page and on the Police Department Press Release page.

Depending on the rss reader that is chosen, a user can selected one or several rss feeds from different websites, enter the feed's link (if you click on a feed above, it is the text listed in the address bar) into the reader. The reader will automatically know when the feed is updated and pull in the new information to display.
