Built in 1882 and reconstructed in 2008, The Paramount Theatre is back as one of
downtown Goldsboro's favorite landmarks.
In 1882 the Weil family built a three-story brick armory and office building which
came to be known as The Paramount Theatre. When it was built, the building was the
tallest in town. The high Victorian Italianate style was noted for its ornamentations
such as the arched windows and cornices.
In 1993 the completely renovated building was donated to the city. The city managed
the operation of the facility that was used for 85% of the time for plays, pageants,
musical events and over events produced locally.

On Saturday, February 19, 2005 at 6:40 a.m. a fire devastated the Paramount Theatre
and the StageStruck building, which was behind it. When it burned many citizens
felt a personal loss.
Thanks to the efforts & support of Mr. David Weil and the Goldsboro City Council
as well as community support, the brand new facility opened on February 15, 2008.
The City of Goldsboro proudly operates the Paramount Theatre. The Theatre is utilized
throughout the year by local groups and visiting artists. In addition, theatre management
is looking to expand and diversify programming at the facility.
