The Goldsboro Fire Department has over 80 paid fire and EMS/rescue staff serving a population of over 39,000 covering over 22 square miles. We receive over 3,200 Fire/EMS calls annually. The GFD also serves the rest of Wayne County through mutual aid contracts that cover an aditional 552.57 square miles and a population of over 109,000. The goal of the fire department is to have an average response time of less than four minutes to 90% of the emergency calls in the city. Response time is the time from dispatch of an incident to the first fire unit arriving on scene.
